Mike Brawer has been an active musician and sound engineer in the Tallahassee area since 1976. He has been a member of numerous well-known local bands as a bass player and guitar player, including Route 4, Tom and the Cats, The Bang, Jerry and Vacillators, Astroglyde, Kanagroo Court, Charlie Hustle and the Late Night Rockers, and currently ACME Rhythm and Blues. He also has lead his own bands Even Odds, Steppin Stone and Skyhouse.
In 1985, Mike started Songbird Productions, doing live sound and lights, and DJ work in between band gigs. He was also promoting and producing live shows such as the annual Cow Chip Jam at Smitty's Farm, Black Flag featuring Henry Rollins, Steve Morse Band (from Dixie Dregs), and reggae great Pablo Moses. Mike has worked front of house and the deck at clubs and Civic Center shows for the Fixx, UB40, George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Loretta Lynn. In 1994 he and his buddy, Skyhouse guitarist Tom Henning, started recording friends on their 8-Track Tascam DA-88 as Buckwheat Jones Recording Studio, in an effort to buy some gear to record their own band, Skyhouse. Tom then began designing the studio facility, starting with the infamous drum room (its air-conditioned!) and adding extensive sound deadening. One thing lead to another and by 1999, Last Chance Recording Studio was born. Mike is an experienced string musician, as well as a singer/songwriter and producer. He has recorded dozens of local musicians and bands, in a variety of styles including hip-hop, rock, country, folk, jazz and blues. Mike has worked on several full CD projects, including recording local stars Skyhouse (Skyhouse, 1996), Bill Wharton and the Ingredients (Gumbo Man, 2001), Hal Shows (Grandaddy Yule, 1996; Native Dancer, 2003),and Superheroes (Girl #1, 2004).
